So ASA has listened to it's shooters and is implementing new scoring for pro classes. 14's will not be in play during the regular round only in the shoot down. All other classes the 14's will remain in play at all times. This will be most interesting during the shoot downs and assuredly add more excitement to the shoot downs.

Women's open class will be a 45 yard max now, and ASA is adding a 40 yard known class for women shooters. I think this will expand the groups who are shooting and give another outlet for those who are shooting better to show off their skills with longer distances. All in all it should be an exciting year in archery for ASA shooters.

to see all of the changes and schedule for ASA be sure to follow this link and see the ASA page on our site for the 2010 schedule. Good luck to those traveling the 2010 and best wishes to all the shooters competing.

Did you see the new banner for the Archery Game Cube?

If not go to the home page and check it out or click here. Some of the features include 15 different games and they are promising more to come.

Here is one~

5 Card Shoot:

2-7 Players
Set Archery Game Cube at 20 yards.
Each player gets 1 shot per round and 5 shots per game.
Cube has 52 cards plus 4 wild cards.
The 4 wild cards can be used as any card your hand.
Best hand wins. *If more than 1 player hits same card, only the first player can count the card.

Then ~

Baseball:

2-8 Players (5 innings)
Home team is determined by coin flip. Visitor team shoots first.
First player shoots until out or successful hit.
Rotate players until team shooting has 3 outs. Then other team shoots and completes the inning.
Next inning starts with on deck shooter from previous inning.
At the end of 5 innings, team with most runs wins.

These are some really unique ideas and what a great way to entertain the kids or yourself. We all get tired of shooting x's or 3D targets so how about something new.
Imagine your child asking to shoot archery on their own!

We thought this was a great idea for archery and families, so get out from in front of the TV get the kids and go have some archery fun.

I have helped at archery ranges before this summer, but man is it a lot of work managing one.

This year we managed 10 tournaments and have one to go for the year.
At the beginning of the year before we started we decided the practice bales needed some updating. We went to work trimming and mowing and generally cleaning up a big mess. Then we proceeded to add a new bale at 50 yards since some of the classes that are at our range shoot out to 45 yards, and some of the archers suggested it would be a good thing.

Lo and behold we visited with some of the other ranges and decided that Morrell Range Targets would be the way to go. So far after hundreds and hundreds of arrows pounding them they are lasting great! These are not for broadhead use so don't even think of that.

Then we decided after more discussions that Reinhart 3D Targets were also the way to go. So far we do not regret the purchases we made, and the new scoring ring replacements were quite inexpensive and have held up well with the amount of arrows that have landed in them over the past few years.

Even Mckenzie 3D Targets have changed the foam they are using and seem to be following suit. We participated in an ASA Archery quailfier that had some of the newest McKinzie tagets and were quite surpised with the ease of pulling the arrows.
Pretty big difference from the older HD Targets they have produced.

After battling torrential rains and mosquitos we are down to one final shoot for the year in September, just in time to test bowhunting equipment on foam animals and get all the kinks worked out. Now if we could just figure out how to cure buck fever while we are at it that would be great!

It has been a good year for our local range and if you think it is easy go help volunteer at your local range. It can actually be quite rewarding setting up and trimming lanes, not to mention it sure beats watching TV.

We have met and gotten aquainted with so many wonderful archers that it has truly been a blessing and i can say it has been a great pleasure to meet and fling arrows with some great folks. We are all out for the same thing. Watching arrows flying through the air and hit the spot we were aiming for.

Hunting season is just around the corner folks!

I hope everyone has their bows and arrows tuned and ready. If not, now is the time to refletch and restring bows and arrows. Also don't forget to resharpen or get your replacement blades for your broadheads to ensure they are at their peak efficiency.

Be sure to wash your hunting clothes to get any foreign smells off of them so we don't tip the deer's nose off to us being there. Clean your boots inside and out and try to store all these items in a container to help keep them clean and scent free.

Hopefully your food plots are planted, and your treestands hung. Cleared your shooting lanes and are ready for opening day. It is always exciting to see October first roll around and get back in the woods for some of the finest views and events nature has to offer us.

Hey get a buddy stand or a hunting blind and take your kids. I assure you you will have the best time and create lots of memories and great friendships with our kids.

It is always a great blessing to give some food to someone who might need it and a lot of processors have  ways to get extra meat to needy families or organizations for the needy.

Again, be safe , have fun and share in the bounty that we are so priviliged to have.

Best of luck to all!!

Wow!

Boy it has been a heck of a year.

Lots of innovations, lots of fun stuff that was done and lots of new friends made and met.

We hope everyone enjoyed the Triple Crown, and wish to thank the participating ranges and all their hard work. We also wish to thank all the volunteers and shooters for showing up to help and participate in a fast growing sport. I believe archery is on the rise with the advent of many new bow companies and their having a hard time keeping up with the demand of their products.

My sincerest hopes for everyone is that they either learned something, bettered their shooting and most important made new friends and bow buddies. We also hope the best for the surrounding clubs and hope they all grow and have great ranges and new ideas for an exiciting 3D season next year.

Looking to the future , I have seen some promising new youngsters beginning to emerge as witnessed by their scores. Remember archery only grows when we help each other and gain new participants.

My suggestion is to bring someone who has never shot a 3D round and buy their first. This will not only make us great ambassadors to the sport, but gain new fans of our sport. If you have children, it is almost never too early to get them shooting. I believe it is better to have them with Dad and Mom on the range then in the house or running the streets.

Good luck to everyone on the pcoming indoor season and best wishes to all the hunters. Now get out there and make memories!
